Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is an investigation in which a small flexible tube is passed under local anaesthetic through the nose down the back of the throat, down the windpipe and into the lungs.

This procedure is performed under the supervision of an Anaesthetist.   You will be given a light anaesthetic to help you relax, reduce coughing and not experience any pain and you will probably be unaware of the procedure.  This anaesthetic will wear off afterwards.

Dr Steinfort performs bronchoscopies at the following hospitals:

  • Geelong Private Hospital
  • St John of God Hospital Geelong
  • University Hospital

Bronchoscopies are regarded as safe providing you do not suffer from severe heart or lung disease.  Dr Steinfort will discuss all relevant medical information in a consultation scheduled prior to the procedure.
